Technocast Foundry casts grey iron, ductile (SG) iron and steel at Arasur, Coimbatore, then machines, coats and assembles the parts on the same site. Installed capacity is 1,500 tonnes a month.

One Stop
Solution

Most foundries pour the metal and send the casting out again to be heat treated, machined and coated. Every one of those steps happens here at Arasur. That means one purchase order, one quality system and one company answerable for the finished part, instead of a chain of suppliers where lead time and accountability get lost.

Tooling and Simulation

Patterns are designed in CAD and the filling and solidification are simulated in AutoCAST before any metal is cut.

Casting

Five moulding routes — high pressure, ARPA 450, ARPA 1300, shell and Alpha-set No Bake — covering 1 kg to 1,500 kg in a single piece.

Heat Treatment

Stress relieving, normalising, annealing, hardening and tempering, and induction hardening, all on site, so parts are treated without leaving the plant.

Machining

Twenty vertical machining centres, four horizontal centres, thirteen turning centres, five VTLs and a vertical turn mill to 1,750 mm.

Fabrication and Assembly

TIG, MIG and arc welding, sheet perforation and forming, and sub-assembly with bought-in steel, brass, PTFE and rubber components.

Testing and Finishing

Spectrometer, CMM, ultrasonic and magnetic particle inspection, pressure and load testing, and primer paint applied in house.

How We Work

From Drawing
to Delivery

Every casting takes the same route through the plant, with a defined check at each stage.

Tooling and Simulation

Patterns are designed in CAD and the filling and solidification are simulated in AutoCAST before any metal is cut.

Core Making

Cold box, shell and CO2 cores are shot to size in a core shop running shooters from 5 kg to 30 kg.

Moulding

The part is routed to high pressure, ARPA 450, ARPA 1300, shell or Alpha-set No Bake, according to its size and volume.

Melting and Pouring

Four 1 tonne dual-track induction furnaces melt around 60 tonnes a day, with chemistry set on an ARL spectrometer before each pour.

Fettling and Finishing

Castings are knocked out, fettled and ground to size, then stress relieved, normalised or hardened in our own heat treatment shop where the grade calls for it.

Machining and Inspection

Parts are machined on the VMC, HMC, turning and VTL lines, measured on Brown & Sharpe CMMs and tested against the drawing.

Painting and Packing

Primer paint is applied in house, with CED, powder, zinc and galvanize finishes through approved partners, then parts are packed to the agreed standard for road or sea freight.

The Plant Behind
the Promise

One stop only works if every station is properly equipped. Installed capacity is 1,500 tonnes a month, and more than forty machine tools sit on the same site as the furnaces.

Four 1 tonne dual-track medium frequency induction furnaces melting around 60 tonnes a day, plus a dedicated bay of two 1.5 tonne furnaces feeding the No Bake line.

Special Processes

Gear shaping to 500 mm diameter, dynamic balancing to 1 gram, induction and through hardening, and a 2,000 tonne hydraulic press for load testing.

Materials

Three Metal Families

Around 60 per cent of our output is ductile iron, 30 per cent grey iron and 10 per cent steel.

Grey Cast Iron

EN-GJL-250 to EN-GJL-300

Chosen for damping and machinability. Poured to EN 1561 and cross-referenced to GG30 and GG35, FGL 250 and 300, ASTM A48 and JIS FC grades. Around 30 per cent of output.

The largest share of our output at roughly 60 per cent. Chosen where a part must carry load without cracking, with nodularity confirmed by ultrasonic velocity inspection.

Carbon, alloy and stainless grades

About 10 per cent of output, including WCB carbon steel, alloy steels such as 20MnCr5 and E350, and stainless grades such as CF3M for corrosive service.
